Project Crai (in German) Very sad news: Crai died on the 18th of June 2009 In remember of Crai and Poiana I going to publish a photogallery on this page with only short notes. It will take some days until I have finished it.
Crai: Close to me at the fence; The first days out of his enclosure; He is relaxing and enjoying every day more. Important note about all the news on the internet since May 2008: The information that has recently been spread on the internet regarding the wolf Crai is partially incorrect. It was published by the animal rights people in Romania who were not informed of all of the circumstances surrounding Crai’s situation. I was able to help them with more precise information and since then they have been correcting their mistakes via email. Crai is safe and has made a very good recovery over previous weeks. However, it is important to change the circumstances of his life to ensure that he spends the remainder of his years in a nice relaxed environment, surrounded people who care about him and will provide him with all the love he needs. Preparing Crai to move in his new home more pictures and informtion klick... 21.Juni 2009: I received yesterday the very sad message, that Crai died unexpected two days ago. They told me, that it was completly unexpected since nobody recognised any health problems of Crai. Cristina Lapis told me, that she want to do an autopsy to find out the reason why he died so suddenly. I'm feeling very sad and was schocked about these bad news. ALl emotiions and pictures from last summer are comming up. So somehow I'm glad that I could create an extremly enjoyable last summer to Crai last year. It was a very intensive time and I'm feeling emotinal extremly touched by his dead. Unfortunalty he can not explore the new big enlcosure since it is not finished yet. What now!
The donation account for Crai is closed now: The actual status from 10.June 2009 was 2.091,55Euro. I was transfering the money on Agust 11 2009 to Cristina Lapis to help her financing the construction of the big wolf enlcosure. I have used about 500,-Euro to cover the traveling cost in April to get a direct impression of the situation of Crai and to discuss how to continue my support. That means I was collecting almost 2600,-€ from January until August 2009 for the wolf enclosure and about 5500,- € last year.
New pictures of Crai and the new wolf Crock in their new enclosure Crock is a 6 year old male wolf. He is coming form a zoo in Piatra Neamt. following my information about Crock was he found when he was about 2 month old. Since than he was living in a small catch with only some m². he never had contact with other wolves. They had to take Crock as an emegrancy. Before he can be released to the whole enclosure does has to get socialised with Crai and all work inside of the enclosure must be finished. belwo some pictures of Crock.
Crai, with his 12 years is not jumping over the fence or is climbing it. As long only Crai is in his new enclosure we can still work inside. Crock is not socielised with people like Crai is and could try to escape. finaly crock must get castrated. No wolf breading is planned in the Sanctuary. Crai moved in his new home on 23th October 2008 at around 4 pm
His last walk in his old territory. we were driving about 13km in my car to his new home.
I'm sitting in the back of my car take care about Crai. Markus, a volunteer from switzerland is driving carefully. Katharina Kurmes is driving her car to show Markus the best route. I was surprised how well Crai was doing it. Just at the end he got ill ab bit. To avoid conflicts with the dogs at the Sanctuary we were going around and entered from the back side. No problem at all with Crai he was just enjoying the walk and all the new interesting smells. Without any problem or stress did we arrived the new enclosure.
I released him so he could explores his new home together with me. We were running and had good fun togther. Crock was very interested and shows submissive behaviour towards Crai. Crai was more dominant and interested in him as well.
Many details must be finished in the enclosure. It is part of the training programm for Crai. we are working and he is observing and controlling our work. We left Crai after darkness and I could not sleep whole night long. At 6:45 with first daylight did I had a look if all is alright. It will take a bit of time until Crai is used and we will help him during the next days to feel comfortable in his new home with his new Company Crock. Shira my dog is very helpfull since Crai like her very much.
Beside the work we are playing, talking or resting with Crai and Crock. Crai has found some sleeping places. Crai is running with Shira.
Both are playing and racing in the enclosure. It is even better than going for a walk. Crai is fourcing me as well to run after him. If I do not is he baiting in my arm. After all thoses activities do we all need a break. Important is my work with Crock. He is scared for many noises, even for a strong wind. Step by step does he trust me more. Some pictures.
at the beginning he is showing his teeth when I'm to close. Slowly is he learning to take food from my fingers and from my hand. He is licking my fingers and is laying down just in front of me. On friday I could stroke him first on his breast belly. A problem is, that is is nervious and is showing always his teeth again because of any strange noise. He is not baiting me. Unfortunatly was Crai baiting in his paw today, just when he was laying down and one of his hind paw was clsoe at the fence. It was not a seriouse bait, but I do have to start again my work and he his very scared about Crai when crai is close. Crai show very cool and dominant behaviour. The brown bear in the last picture is Max. He is the neighbour of both wolves. Max is blind and is coming from Peles Castle in Sinaia, where he was kept as tourist attracktion. He recovered very well and has a very beautiful dark brown color. Tomorrow (November 3) is the last day for me with the wolves. I need to go back to Germany. I'm feeling sad about it and to interrupt the work. I do hope to find enough budget to come back bevore Christmas again to release Crock into the enclosure to Crai. It is not good if he has to wait much longer for his "freedom". December 2008 Crock is free in the enclosure together with Crai. I wasn't there but Cristina Lapis told me it was working well without problems. It was short before Christmas.
Here some pictures of Crai and Crock together in the enclosure. I believe in snow wolves become a very special touch. You will see, that Crai is much brighter than Crock. on the left picture is Crai behind Crock. Crock is sitting on the next picture and Crai is standing watching what the photographer is doing. Unfortunatly do I not received any pictures, with Crai and Crock with more interesting interactions, feeding or playing. But it is obviouse that the do accept each other and both are together in the enclosure. I try to explain and to motivate the people at the enclosure to make more different interesting pictures and to document the behaviour a bit more in detail. Thank you for all you help.
